The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld Olumide Akpata as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for Edo State’s September 21 election.
This decision reinforces a previous ruling by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja, who in June dismissed a suit challenging Akpata’s nomination.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Okon Abang, the appellate court ruled that Kenneth Imansuangbon, who challenged Akpata’s candidacy, failed to explore the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms before approaching the court.
Moreover, the court pointed out that Imansuangbon failed to present the disputed results of the February 23 primary election, which he claimed to have won.
