Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has stated he would forgive suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara if he tenders a sincere apology over their prolonged political feud.
The rift between Wike and his successor escalated shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, leading to a factionalised state assembly and eventual emergency rule declaration by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.
Fubara was suspended for six months, with a sole administrator appointed to oversee the state.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Wike challenged claims of peace efforts: “Has anybody approached anybody? I don’t like hypocrites. Can anyone name an elder genuinely mediating?”
He referenced Tinubu’s intervention, which prompted lawmakers to withdraw Fubara’s impeachment notice, adding: “I’m open to forgiveness if he comes sincerely.”
