Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji has emphasized that everyone has a role to play in eradicating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and making society, especially Ekiti State, free from this harmful practice.
She made this statement while declaring open a symposium on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM.
The symposium, organized by the New Generation Girls and Women Development Initiative and international organizations, aimed to raise awareness and strengthen alliances to end FGM.
Dr. Oyebanji highlighted the devastating effects of FGM, including lifelong health complications such as infections, infertility, and childbirth complications.
Dr. Oyebanji stressed the importance of collaboration among governments, civil society organizations, development partners, activists, and stakeholders to end FGM. She emphasized that FGM is a violation of women’s and girls’ basic human rights.
