Superstar Beyoncé has won a 12-year legal battle to trademark her daughter’s name, Blue Ivy.
The Trademark Official Gazette confirmed the decision, granting the singer exclusive rights to the name.
The dispute began in 2012 when Beyoncé and Jay-Z filed for trademark protection shortly after their daughter’s birth but faced opposition from wedding planner Veronica Morales, who had operated “Blue Ivy Events” since 2009.
In 2020, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ruled that the event company’s name was distinct from Blue Ivy Carter’s name but another hindrance in popped up in 2023 when a Wisconsin boutique claimed rights to the “Blue Ivy” logo, but failed to pursue their opposition.
The successful trademark registration now prevents others from commercially exploiting Blue Ivy’s name.
