Vice President Kamala Harris, on Saturday, challenged Donald Trump to a second debate ahead of the U.S. presidential election, but Trump declined, calling it “too late” as early voting had already begun in some states.
Harris had accepted an invitation from CNN for an October 23 debate, following their first encounter on September 10, which she was seen to have won.
Harris’s campaign argued that voters deserved another opportunity to hear from both candidates before casting ballots.
But speaking at a North Carolina rally, Trump said a debate would be “good entertainment” but unnecessary due to the ongoing voting process.
He also expressed concerns about fairness after CNN’s handling of their previous debate.
The race remains close, with Harris criticising Trump for his role in Georgia’s strict abortion ban, while Trump continues to draw support from conservative voters, particularly for his role in reshaping the Supreme Court.
