An aluminum worker named Lawrence Uzor as allegedly attacked his wife, gouging out her eyes for ritual purposes in Abia State.
The incident took place at Adiele Estate, Umueze Ibeku, Umuahia North LGA.
Lawrence, from Umuchieze in Bende LGA, reportedly used a knife while his wife slept.
During the incident, Lawrence also attacked his landlady, Madam Lovejane Nwaiwu, knocking out some of her teeth and cutting off her upper lip.
Madam Nwaiwu, who was also admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, said she heard a noise in the couple’s apartment and went to find out what was happening. She raised an alarm, leading to Lawrence’s arrest by the community vigilance team.
The First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti who visited the victims at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, expressed deep sadness and pledgedsupport for the victims.
Community chairman, Tutus Jonah, confirmed the incident, noting the couple had lived peacefully before Lawrence’s behavior changed after a visit to a prayer house.
