Lagos state government says it has not abandoned the malfunctioning elevator at General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, that led to the death of Vwaere Diaso, a doctor who died after the elevator she was in crashed from the 10th floor to the ground floor.
Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, Jubril Gawat said this while responding to a social media user, who claimed the elevator has remained unfixed, a year after the tragic death of the doctor, but the Gawat assured that work was ongoing in the facility.
According to Gawat, Julius Berger has started work on the whole building not just the elevator, noting that the contractors have been on site for about 2 months, a brand-new elevator is also on its way.
Recall, six months after the death of doctor Vwaere Diaso, the state commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced that replacement of the elevator had begun, appealing to residents to exercise patience as efforts were being made to ensure that there was no recurrence.
