The Edo State Chapter of the All-Progressives Congress has called for an investigation into an attack on its candidate in the September 21 governorship election, Monday Okpebholo, in Benin, on Thursday.
Okpebholo and the reinstated deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, were shot at by gunmen on Thursday while exiting the Benin Airport after they arrived in Benin together, forcing residents to flee the area in fear for their safety.
However, in a statement today, the Director of Publicity, APC Governorship Campaign Council, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, condemned the attack on Okpebholo and described it as an assassination attempt by enemies of democracy and the development of the state.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the State Security Service to probe the assassination attempt and bring the culprits to book and also rein in state-sponsored criminals who have made the political landscape unsafe.
