The Defence Headquarters says the military has started rejigging its operations in the oil-rich Niger Delta region as part of efforts to ensure transparency by International Oil Companies operating in the region.
This comes after the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote recently accused the IOCs of manipulating prices and obstructing crude oil supply to the refinery, claims supported by local refiners, prompting the House of Representatives to launch an investigation.
The military in a statement by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba stated that the revamped military operations would help shore up oil production in the country, enforce and ensure transparency by International Oil Companies operating in the region.
Buba said troops in the Niger Delta have recorded major successes in different operations, including destroying 31 illegal refining sites, 11 dugout pits, five boats and 20 storage tanks among others.
