President Lazarus Chakwera has paid tributes to his Vice President, Saulos Chilima who died alongside nine others when their aircraft disappeared from airport radars and crashed in the Chikangawa Forest.
Chakwera described Chilima as a good man, a devoted father and formidable VP.
Earlier President Chakwera said the plane which was carrying Chilima and nine others including former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri failed to land due to bad weather and was to return to Mzuzu when it lost contact.
Chilima was on his way to represent the government at the burial of former government minister Ralph Kasambara, who died four days ago.
Chilima, first elected vice-president in 2014 was stripped of his powers during his second stint on the job in 2022 after being arrested and charged with graft over a bribery scandal involving a British-Malawian businessman.
he was however cleared off the allegations months ago.
