President Bola Tinubu has urged collective action for environmental protection and a transition to a clean economy.
In a statement by his Spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale to mark World Environment Day, Tinubu highlighted the urgent need to address drought challenges in Nigeria.
President Tinubu also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2060, an action he said he promoted by establishing the Presidential Committee on Climate Action and launching the country’s first Green Industrial Zone.
He also reiterated the goal of planting 25 million trees by 2030 to boost the green economy and youth employment.
World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, raises awareness on key environmental issues as the United Nations claims that 40% of the world’s land is degraded, affecting half the global population, and warns that droughts could impact 75% of people by 2050.
