A tank farm reportedly belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL Tank Farm at Kayode Street, Marine Beach, in the Apapa area of Lagos was on Friday was gutted by fire.

This was confirmed by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye who admitted that a rescue team, comprising Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, were still battling to put off the raging fire as of the time of filing this report.

The inferno, it was gathered, resulted from a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the terminal.

But  the NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, said the fire was not from the company’s depot but from Honeywell Oil and Gas Limited.

“It is not at the NNPC, but at HOGL. The fire is at a pipeline at HOGL. The fire has since been extinguished. It’s at the Honeywell depot but it has now been extinguished. Not NNPC,” Soneye said.

He described the report of the Lagos State Fire Service as “false”.
