On the occasion of World Earth Day 2024, Prominent Businessman, Engr Henrich Akomolafe has called on businesses, communities, and governments to unite in the fight against plastic pollution.

In a short remark on this year’s theme, “Planet vs Plastics,” Akomolafe, a Forbes 30 under 30 alumnus emphasized the urgent need to address the escalating crisis of plastic waste that threatens ecosystems, wildlife, and human health globally.

He said; “The battle against plastic pollution cannot be won by individuals alone. It requires a concerted effort from governments, businesses, and civil society organizations to implement robust policies, invest in sustainable solutions, and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.”

Highlighting the dire consequences of unchecked plastic waste, Akomolafe stated, “Plastic pollution is choking our drainages, rivers, and landscapes. We must urgently find a way to clean up this environmental mess while prioritizing safer alternatives.”

While acknowledging the efforts of Lagos and Oyo States to phase out Styrofoam and other single-use plastics, Engr Akomolafe, urged his home state, Ekiti to embrace a similar ban on these materials.

“Ekiti has the potential to lead by example in environmental sustainability,” Engr Akomolafe stated. “By phasing out Styrofoam and single-use plastics, we can significantly reduce our ecological footprint and inspire other regions to take decisive action.” Engr Akomolafe stated.

He added, “I call on our local leaders and community members in Ekiti to prioritize our environment and our future. Let’s commit to policies that preserve our natural beauty and promote a healthier, more sustainable way of life for all our citizens.”
