Dear Oseni Rufai @ruffydfire,
Thank you for enquiring about this.
Nigerian Doctors hereby draw your attention to the atrocity happening at @unijos.
Since 2015, the College of Medicine has been admitting students into its unaccredited Dentistry programme.
Despite the apparently insurmountable challenges in meeting @MDCNOfficial’s requirements for accreditation, they have continued to lure unsuspecting @JAMBHQ candidates.
Now, the programme is overrun with multiple sets of Dental Students, who are unable to progress in their studies.
We are informed the 2015 Pioneer Class has not sat any exams since 2021!
Our young colleagues and their families have pleaded for the programme to be halted, pending accreditation.
They have also requested for current sets to be converted to Medical Students.
Both medical and dental students go through the exact same training and sit the Medical Board (MB) Exams.
Conversion is not a far fetched idea. As a matter of fact, there has been precedence for this in ABUAD, Zaria.
All efforts to harmonize these programmes have proven abortive, as both the Vice Chancellor of
@unijos (Prof Tanko Ishaya) and the Provost of the College of Medicine (Prof Caleb Mpyet) have not been able to facilitate this transition.
As you can see in the videos in circulation on X, our young colleagues have commenced peaceful demonstrations, to protest this injustice.
Nigerian Doctors implore you to investigate this matter, as a journalist of timber and calibre.
We intend to support our young colleagues online and off-line, as they intensify their efforts to reach a logical conclusion on this matter.
Thank you for your anticipated timely intervention.
