The Senate has suspended Senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi for an initial period of three months, having concluded that his allegations of budget padding of up to 3trillion naira was false.
When confronted on the floor of the senate, Ningi insisted some of the figures in the budget were bogus but noted that the report of budget padding was however twisted by mainstream media.
While Senate leader, Michael Bamidele alleged that Ningi’s allegation was part of a grand scheme by some Senators to unseat President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Minority Leader, Abba Moro and Musa Sani lambasted Ningi for bringing the reputation of the Senate into disrepute and asked him to apologise.
After the conversations, Akpabio pronounced the suspension of Ningi as moved by Cross River South Senator, Asuquo Ekpenyong and agreed by voice vote.
Akpabio, however, noted that Ningi may be recalled to the chambers if he tenders a written apology and shows genuine remorse as early as tomorrow.
