Controversy has erupted within the Labour Party in Edo State after opposing factions nominated different governorship candidates ahead of the September 21 polls.
The officially recognized Julius Abure-led executive saw former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata win 316 votes in Friday’s primary.
However, the Lamidi Apapa faction sent a letter dated February 22, 2024 to INEC naming Anderson Asemota as its candidate from an alleged parallel primary.

When contacted, Apapa confirmed the letter’s authenticity but the LP state Public Relations Officer Sam Uroupa insisted Akpata’s selection was the only official process.
