The house of representative has proposed a review of the 2022 electoral act, faulting the interpretation and implementation of the law, which it described as a betrayal of the spirit and intent of the law.
The Chairman house committee on rules and business, Francis Waive in a statement wondered why the independent electoral commission and sister agencies deviated from the guidelines and outlines stated by the law.
According to him, a motion is being considered on the floor of the house, to bypass collation centres where he claimed a large percentage of electoral malpractice were perpetrated, insisting that the new law if passed will enforce the transmission of election results electronically.
Waive submitted that Nigerian democracy was at a critical point where the process of election must enter a transparent phase, powered by technology, which will ensure that the will of the people is enforced.
