The president of the ongoing UN climate talks, Sultan al-Jaber has rejected statement alluded to him that he claimed there was “no science” requiring the end of fossil fuels to limit temperature rise to 1.5C.
Countries at the UN climate talks in 2015 agreed to slash releases of warming gases to keep the average global temperature rise below 1.5C But in an online event Jaber appeared to deny that.
But on Monday, Jaber said the allusions to his remarks were a constant and repeated attempt to undermine the work of the COP28 presidency.
He insisted that the phase down and the phase out of fossil fuel is inevitable for the atmosphere’s sake.
