Some suspected cultists said to be loyal to a wanted kingpin, David Gift, on Sunday killed five people in the Odiemerenyi community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The assailants were said to be members of the dreaded Iceland cult group led by Gift alias 2 Baba, who was said to be responsible for the killing of the Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashin, in Odumude community, Ahoada East LGA in September 2023.
Eyewitness said the killers had earlier ambushed a police patrol van, but missed their target before entering into the community and killing their victims.
Recall the late Angbashim, had led his men to raid criminal hideouts in Odemude Community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state in September, when a dreaded cult group led by okpara ambushed them, opened fire and eventually captured angbashim, decapitated his body and filmed their action.
The Police in Rivers is yet to issue any statement on the attack.
