The Appeal Court in Lagos has dismissed the petition of former governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade challenging the election of Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Jarigbe Jarigbe.
The court also awarded N500,000 against the former governor who contested under the All-Progressives Congress in favour of the incumbent senator who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The former governor who was in the Senate between 2011 and 2015, lost the National Assembly elections conducted in February with 56,595 votes against Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic Party who scored 76,145 votes.
The Appellate affirmed the judgement of the tribunal which declared Jarigbe winner on the grounds that Ayade’s petition lacked merit.
