In the face of unprovoked and unwarranted violence and danger,
In the face of unprecedented harassment and intimidation,
Against the backdrop of weaponized poverty, and in the face of near irresistible inducement,
Against all odds, all the above , and more,
A group of determined, resolute, and unrepentant patriots decided to cast their ‘one vote’ for my Deputy and I.
Such votes are therefore SACRED.
To them, it will be the height of insensitivity, betrayal, and almost unforgivable for my Deity and I not to fight for their SACRED VOTES.
Udeme had just watched the video before leaving her house that morning. It was forwarded to her by her fellow OBIdient friend that a National Leader of the BigTent, and the OBIdient Movement, the highly respected Prof Pat Utomi, had just formally and officially endorsed NYA-ETOK of ADC (AKS) as one of the very few endorsed candidates, in a 2mins video.
Before this video, she had decided not to vote for “personal reasons”. BUT, as soon as she watched the video, she whispered to herself, “I am OBIdient, I will obey my Chairman.”
Her polling unit was said to “belong” to a certain strongman. Her friends knew about her resolve not to vote for the candidate of the said strongman, and for her safety, it constituted her “personal reason” not to vote. As she got out to vote, her friends knew she would NOT vote for the said strongman’s candidate, so they tried to prevail on her not to be stubborn.
Against the risk to her, her mind was made up, and she went. True to the threat in the air, as she approached, the news of her arrival took over the discourse in the unit. “Madam OBIdient is here o!” was echoed all over. Expectedly, Mr Strongman walked over to her. “This is my unit, and 100% is what I am known for, so I do not expect that you will try my will” It was not an empty threat, and she knew it. To make matters easier, knowing her unrepentant OBIdient disposition, she was handsomely approached with the new and fresh notes privately. A guy walked up to her. “We know that you are a stubborn lady, here is N10k in this envelope that I’m privately giving you. Just take it and do the needful. Just one vote will not make your candidate to lose” This was very tempting. A combination of her personal safety, and the cash inducement on a day that she had spent the past two days at the atm trying to get just N5k in vain, made common sense to buckle. Quicker than the thought to “be reasonable” came, again, she whispered to herself, “I am OBIdient.“
When it was time to cast her vote, the strongman had decided better what to do. She eventually, AGAINST ALL ODDS, did cast her one OBIdient vote for me.
Today on the portal, ADC has ZERO vote from her unit!!!
Where is Udeme’s vote?
Who took her SACRED VOTE?
I owe her the duty to GET JUSTICE FOR HER SACRED VOTE. She did it in her obedience to the OBIdient leadership.
The case of Ubong is different. He lived in a hostile opposition environment. They taunted him through the campaign period. He had been nicknamed “Akpan Nya-Etok”. He was a disciple indeed. They were ready to let him be, but had assured him that he would only get one vote for his Oga. He worked hard, very hard to campaign for me. On the Election Day, he had gained 15 converts. They were actually 17, but two had yielded to the monetary inducement and had backslidden. Each of the other 15 had found a way to show Ubong their vote. Following Mr President’s “Vote and show”, it was no more a big deal to expose votes as it became common practice to get paid by vote buyers.
To the heartbreak of Ubong, what is on the iREV for ADC in his polling unit is ONE vote!
After all the ridicule, all the taunting, all the sacrifice, and more, why should anyone touch the vote of these faces of true democracy?
Why will I not bend over backwards to get justice for Ubong and his converts?
The story is endless.
It is not about winning, -as desirable as it is.
It is about JUSTICE for these SACRED VOTES.
Question:
How did Ward, 11 unit 14 , Uyo where we had 49 votes of ADC as reflected in the results sheets that was signed by the agents, suddenly become ZERO (0), on the IREV portal? In that same ward, how did 76 of our votes in another unit become 3, and yet in another unit, our 27 votes became 3!!! If in only 3 units (out of 4353 units in the state), we lost about 150 votes, can you imagine what it ultimate votes tally will be?!!!
WHO was responsible?
WHAT must be done to her/him?
With over 200 of such cases that we have so far established, amounting to thousands of DIVERTED VOTES, isn’t it just CIVIL for us to take this case to its LEGAL logical conclusion?
This JUSTICE will come in two ways:
- The SACRED VOTES must be fished out and RETURNED.
- The OFFENDERS who changed the results must be fished out and PUNISHED.
If we are to preserve our democracy, bad behavior must be punished.
We must say ENOUGH to condoning these evils and enemies of our nascent democracy. Freedom of choice must be guaranteed on the ballot, and electoral good behavior of shunning the twin evils of intimidation and inducement on Election Day, must be rewarded by fighting for JUSTICE for their SACRED VOTES.
As we head to the tribunal, we appeal to all OBIdients, and other lovers of true democracy (that the OBIdient Movement has come to typify), to stand with us to get JUSTICE for these SACRED VOTES.
If you had voted for your preferred candidate (in any party) and your vote was hijacked, or appropriated for another, if your party was not financially buoyant to have agents at all levels and the votes of your party were shared by others, THIS PETITION IS FOR YOU!
In democracy, your vote is your voice, and NO-ONE has any right to tamper with it! Your lone vote is your SACRED RIGHT.
It is a SACRED VOTE.
It deserves to get JUSTICE!
With this JUSTICE obtained, and maintained, as we progress, one day, SACRED VOTES will not only have their say on the ballot, one day, they will HAVE THEIR WAY!
This journey for a sanitized voting process will only be possible if we get JUSTICE for the SACRED VOTES, and no longer condone bad electoral behavior, but PUNISH it.
