The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has issued a warning to the Presidency that continued disregard for the Supreme Court Judgement on the status of old notes can lead to anarchy.

The forum, made its position known in a statement by its Secretary General, Murtala Aliyu.

The Supreme Court in a unanimous judgement said President Muhammadu Buhari erred when he ordered the ban on use of old notes and subsequently asked that the old N500 and N1000 naira remain legal tender until the end of the year.

Defending the governors who sued the Federal Government over the policy, Aliyu explained that the current approach of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) raises concerns about the respect for the civil liberties and rights of Nigerians as it relates to their freedom to use legitimately earned income as they so wish.

Aliyu who insisted that the CBN’s current action breaches the law, warned that non adherence to the judgement will continue to triggered riots and other forms of civil unrest.”
