The Labour Party presidential campaign council says Nigerians should expect massive peaceful protests across the country following the alleged refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to allow it inspect materials used for the February 25th presidential elections.

Recall that the tribunal had allowed the inspection of materials by the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party as well as the reconfiguration of BVAS by INEC.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos, Spokesman for the campaign, Tanko Yunusa said while it was still exploring legal options, the seeming flouting of the ruling of the presidential election petition tribunal by INEC had triggered a result to alternate legal means of expressing their opinions.

Key statements by Yunusa; “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with greatest impunity have refused, neglected and failed to obey the Order of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja made on the 03rd day of March 2023, directing it to grant the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, leave to apply and receive from INEC, certified true copies of materials used in the presidential election held on 25th February 2023.

“The action of INEC under reference also constitutes for all intent and purposes, an act of judicial insubordination and willful refusal to comply to the order of court.

“As we speak INEC has chosen to obey the court order given to it to reconfigure the BIVAS machine, which they doing right now and ignoring the order granted to us to to inspect electoral materials.”

Yunusa further accused INEC of attempting to cover its tracks by insisting that it would not allow inspection of election materials until it has completed reconfiguration.

INEC is yet to react to the allegations.
