The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has threatened to sue the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others over unsubstantiated and libelous allegations against it and its chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, gave the warning in Abuja.
Earlier on Friday, PDP called for the resignation of the chairman of the INEC, Mahmood Yakubu.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, national publicity secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba said a further review of the alleged infractions in the February 25th elections showed that Yakubu could not continue in office.
The PDP noted that the continuing stay of Yakubu in office as the chairman of INEC is therefore injurious to the integrity of the electoral commission and an unpardonable assault to sensibility of Nigerians and the international community.
Reacting, Oyekanmi said the PDP did not give evidence to prove its claims that Yakubu sabotaged the uploading and transmission of results from polling units and insisted that they should challenge the election process in court.
