Endsars is a failed movement.
Look at every protest that changed things – Women’s suffrage, American civil rights, anti apartheid and more recently me too and Black Lives Matter
People protested in the streets but more importantly they took to on the legal systems- why did the constitution not allow women or black people vote. Apartheid was the law and Mandela by his protests and actions violated that law and under that law was jailed for 27 years.
So protest all you want if you don’t attack the legal framework or the policies that make things the way they are you are just in civil disobedience and are disturbing the peace.
The recent movements of Me too and Black lives matters are changing policies in companies and communities alike pushing for diversity and inclusion with many companies running training on this topics. Things that started as an American protest has metamorphosed into a global change.
End SARS was not hijacked by thugs it was hijacked by celebrities and people looking to make a name for themselves. Sharing small chops, food and drinks and worst of all (even though there was limited movement because of Covid) it disrupted people’s activities.
The military was sent to clear both the protesters and the thugs. The ensuing outcry has led to even bigger problems.
The army general – Major John Eneche , now retired, came out with disdain to abuse the movement calling pictures photoshopped and claimed no lives were lost. He has now done a 180 saying the only reason he did that was because he swore allegiance to the military service. He joined the national working committee of the Labour Party. His younger brother Pastor Paul Enenche has come out strongly with decisive retoric. Celebrities like Falz and Mr Macaroni that are associated with the movement have come out in support of LP.
Instead of organizing and buying legal and research time on how to change the laws – the gains from the protest have not been wrongly handed over to compromised politicians.
LP or any political party most never be handed the keys to Endsars because it shows the exact problem that got us here in the first place – a compromised system of politicians, religious leaders and military all serving their own interests.
Celebrities protesting on Twitter must be like Fela if they must become activists never befriend politicians in a way that gives them access to your struggle otherwise they use you for their convenience
