Ahead of the general elections, the Nigeria Police Force is handing over illegal arms and ammunition recovered from criminals across the nation to the Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons under the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The handing-over ceremony is currently ongoing at Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The recovered arms and ammunition of varying calibre, grades, and models, numbering over a thousand, comprises Automatic Rifles, machine guns, and assault rifles, among others.
The arms and ammunition, according to the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, were majorly recovered from armed criminals and other non-state actors in Owerri in Imo State, Jos in Plateau State, and Sokoto and Bauchi States.
