The persistent leadership failure in Nigeria is bewildering and the effects always ricochet in the lives of the already suffering people.

Sometimes, it looks as though Nigerians never get a break from the unending calamity, it’s a disturbing cycle of misnomer.

Nigeria is one of the largest producers of oil in the world, yet it lacks oil for domestic consumption.Since the start of 2022, it has been inundated with fuel scarcity despite paying over 5 trillion of its 21 trillion budget in subsidies, but it’s people continue to feed fat on a buffet of failed promises.

In Nov 2022, a new phase of fuel scarcity started and since then it hasn’t stopped,in fact the Department of state Security intervened to no avail. There is a perceived rift between the major oil marketers and the independent oil marketers, in their depositions the independent oil marketers claim the Nigerian National petroleum Corporation, the sole importer of the product sides with the Major oil marketers hence the logistical nightmare and the price differentials. In Nigeria today, the price of petrol varies from 170Naira to 400Naira, the city of Lagos has consistently been inundated with traffic snarls as people queue to get the product, all of this happens as the polls  are fast coming up in about 30days.

It has to be said that the trajectory of leadership incompetence constantly destroys the prospect of Nigeria, but will the people make a better choice at the elections,Most Nigerians are poor and largely uneducated and this weaponization has become a tool in the hands of politicians to swindle votes, also the social media and fake news makes a lot of impact as people are easy to deceive.

It’s would be interesting to posit if the effect of fuel scarcity will make any impact on the elections. It is a research I am ready to carry out.I have always believed that except the people turn a corner for good, fuel scarcity will only continue, but it’s incumbent on us all to watch and see.The most important challenge will be when the fuel scarcity will end, for that I say only God knows.
