The federal government has said it registered the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) to unbundle the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, stated this while presenting certificates of registration to both unions in office In abuja.

Ngige noted that both unions have been officially gazetted, which makes them entitled to all labour rights as enshrined in the International Trade Unions’ constitution.

Ngige also noted that the alleged lack of democracy, transparency and failure to render a proper account of check-off dues by ASUU culminated in grievances that spurred the Federal Government to consider the registration of CONUA.
