The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has said the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has no plans to relocate the Federal Capital Territory to Lagos if elected in next year’s poll.

There were social media speculation earlier that Tinubu intends to relocate the FCT from Abuja back to Lagos if given the presidential mandate.

But a statement on Tuesday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga said the opposition was responsible for spreading what he described as falsehood and a campaign of calumny against Tinubu, adding that it was a case of character assassination.

Part of the statement reads, “Asiwaju does not contemplate any such plan and will not do anything that is so ultra-unconstitutional.

“The APC Presidential Campaign Council hereby alerts Nigerians about the latest insidious campaign in some parts of the country against our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. After exhausting their arsenal of calumnies and character assassination against Tinubu, the opposition has begun a multi-pronged desperate campaign of falsehoods.

“In one of the falsehoods being circulated, especially in the North West of the country, Tinubu does not harbour plans to relocate the Federal Capital from Abuja to Lagos on succeeding President Muhammad Buhari from 29th May 2023. We are shocked that some people could contrive such an egregious lie, all in the name of politics, to confuse our burgeoning support base in that part of the country.”
