The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole has hailed the decision of the state government to withdraw the criminal charges filed against him and former Governor of the State, Rotimi Amaechi and five others.

The Rivers state Government had filed criminal charges against Amaechi, Cole and five others over alleged illegal sales of state assets.

But earlier this week, the trial Judge, Justice Okogbule Gbasam struck out the charges after the Rivers state Government moved to withdraw the charges.

Reacting via a broadcast on his Instagram page, Cole accused the Rivers State Government of initially planning to intimidate the judiciary to do its bidding in the case. He, however, commended the judiciary for choosing to be upright and above reproach; a situation he said compelled the government to quietly withdraw the matter.

Cole added, “There will be more battles ahead, but I will stand for you, my people, emboldened by your support and belief in our movement. For anyone seeking to intimidate any law abiding supporters around the state, you will find our resistance swift and firm”.
