The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has voided the nomination of 12 House of Assembly candidates fielded by the African Democratic Congress and Action Democratic Party in Rivers State.
In a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, Presiding Justice, Turaki Mohammed ruled that the party did not comply with the electoral act during their primaries.
Justice Mohammed in his judgement said the INEC does not have the legal right again to publish and accept the candidacy of the seven ADC candidates, because the evidence before him showed that the party failed to comply with the provisions of the new electoral act.
ADC’s lawyer, Benibo, told newsmen that the legal team will study the judgment and decide whether to go on an appeal.
On his part, one of the lawyers to the PDP, Dike Udenna, said some of the affected parties’ primaries were not monitored by the INEC.
The constituencies where the ADC will not be fielding candidates are Tai, Onelga, Etche and Ahoada.
