The U.S Supreme Court has refused to overturn a ban on TikTok, meaning the Chinese-owned video app faces being shut down on Sunday the day before Donald Trump takes office.
The court upheld a law that bans TikTok from midnight on Sunday on national security grounds.
While The future of the app remains uncertain White House officials say the Biden administration would not enforce the ban during its final hours, while President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to negotiate a deal to save it.
By law, Apple and Google must remove TikTok from their mobile download stores on Sunday – the day before Trump’s inauguration, the video app has also reportedly made plans to stop functioning with a pop-up message directing users in IS to information about the ban.
