The Ondo command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that 16 people lost their lives in a tragic accident on the Ore-Benin expressway.
The incident, which occurred on Monday night, also left three others injured.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Samuel Ibitoye, the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck near the Ajue community.
Ibitoye stated that the crash was caused by excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking, leading to a head-on collision.
The rescue operation, which began shortly after the accident at 8 p.m., concluded at 11 p.m. He mentioned that two passengers managed to escape the incident unscathed.
The spokesperson highlighted that investigations into the accident are still ongoing but restated that excessive speed is a significant factor contributing to road accidents in Nigeria.
