Gov. Hope Uzodimma has assured residents of Imo State that they will soon enjoy uninterrupted power supply following the signing of the Imo State Electricity Law.
The Governor also signed into law the amended Imo State Polytechnic Law No. 15 of 2012 to pave the way for the merger of the polytechnic’s campuses.
On the electricity law, Uzodimma stated that the Imo State Electricity Law would bring rapid development to both rural and urban areas, addressing the ordeal residents face due to limited or no power supply, which has led to businesses dying and unemployment rising.
The governor expressed concern over the abandoned Amaraku electricity project, a federal facility initiated in 2006 but not completed 18 years later.
He revealed that President Bola Tinubu has approved the transfer of the project to the Imo Government, and an agreement has been signed with a world-class Egyptian power company to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity in the state.
Uzodimma expressed confidence that power supply will improve in the state within the next 12 months.
