The Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has led 17 local government chairmen from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Two other members of the Assembly, Sunday Fada Eigbiremonlen, and Idaiye Yekini Oisayemoje also defected.
The defection was confirmed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Fred Itua.
Receiving the defectors, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru assured them of equal opportunities in the party.
Reacting, Governor Okpebholo described the move as a boost for development and reaffirmed his administration’s alignment with President Tinubu’s vision.
Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole also hailed the development as a homecoming for Agbebaku and a sign of growing support for the APC.
With this shift, APC now controls 18 of the 24 seats in the Edo State House of Assembly.
