The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State.

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Obiageli Orah, disclosed this in a statement in the early hours of toady.

Orah said the airport was shut to allow urgent repairs on a damaged part of the runway.

According to him, there is a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.

She explained that emergency repairs will be conducted on that portion of the runway from April 22nd to May 6th, 2025.

Orah added that FAAN had closed the runway following the rules of the Nigerian civil aviation system.
