The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has brushed aside concerns over a potential merger among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as an unworkable alliance destined to fail.
Ganduje made the remarks on Friday during a visit by the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Kaduna State. The visit was part of the party’s post-Sallah homage to the former leader.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ganduje said the ruling party is not threatened by any coalition plans being floated by opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“We are not worried at all,” Ganduje said. “This is just history trying to repeat itself. They went on a joint venture which will not work because from what we have seen, there are just some particles that cannot come together. It is a game, and we will not reveal our technicalities on how to handle it, but we assure you, we are equal to the task.”
Ganduje emphasised the APC’s current strength, boasting of 21 state governors and describing the party as “still the strongest party in West Africa.” He said the party was not only focused on retaining power but also expanding its reach ahead of 2027.
