The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo has apologised after the closure of the Independence Bridge caused Gridlock lasting up to ten hours, leaving commuters stranded overnight.
Speaking shortly after inspecting the bridge, the Governor said the decision to fix the bridge has been on for over 3 years and it was to prevent a disaster waiting to happen.
Recall that the Federal Government had announced plans to close the Independence Bridge (Marina Bound) in Lagos State for essential maintenance and rehabilitation works until the end of May, 2025.
However, the situation remains unclear as the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, ordered its immediate reopening following severe congestion in Ikoyi yesterday.
The federal cont$roller of Works, Lagos, Olukorede Kesha said officials will continue to implement emergency measures to allow limited traffic flow.
