The Ogun State Government has declared a Lassa fever outbreak following the death of a 25-year-old female NYSC member.

According to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, the corps member fell ill in Ondo State and was brought to a secondary health facility in Ijebu North, where she passed away.

Dr. Coker listed symptoms of Lassa fever, including high fever, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, and unexplained bleeding from body openings. She urged residents to report suspected cases immediately.

Health facilities in Ogun have been directed to enhance infection prevention measures. Healthcare workers suspecting Lassa fever should contact disease surveillance officers via: 0703-421-4893 (State Surveillance Officer) and 0808-425-0881 (State Epidemiologist)

The state government reassured the public that it is working with the Rapid Response Team to control the outbreak through surveillance, community engagement, and mobilization.
