The Government has officially commenced the payment of the new N77,000 monthly allowance to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members across the country.
This development follows months of delays after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the increase from the previous N33,000 in September 2024. The delay had caused frustration among corps members, who continued receiving the old allowance for nearly six months.
Recent checks by Adamimogo FM in various states revealed that while some corps members have received the new stipend, others are still awaiting payment.
In Bayelsa, several corps members confirmed that they had received the updated allowance.
“I was really surprised when I checked my account and saw N77,000. It’s a huge relief because things have been tough. I just hope it remains consistent,” said Adebayo, a corps member serving in Yenagoa.
Another corps member, Blessing E., serving in Ogbia, shared her excitement: “Yes, I received mine today. It came at the right time because I had been struggling with transportation and feeding costs. This will definitely make life easier for us.”
However, corps members in Lagos are yet to receive the new allowance and have expressed concerns over the delay.
Another corps member, Emmanuel A., serving in Surulere, voiced his frustration: “Most of us in Lagos haven’t received a kobo of the N77,000. We’re still on the old M33,000. It’s frustrating because we were expecting this increase months ago.”
