Heathrow Airport is “fully operational” following Friday’s widespread disruption caused by a fire at an off-site power substation, a spokesperson confirmed on Saturday.
The blaze shut down Europe’s busiest airport for most of Friday, affecting approximately 1,350 flights according to Flightradar24. Limited operations resumed by Friday evening.
“Teams across the airport continue to do everything they can to support passengers impacted by yesterday’s outage,” the spokesperson said.
The airport has deployed hundreds of additional staff and added extra flights to accommodate an additional 10,000 passengers. Travellers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information.
British Airways expects to operate about 85% of its scheduled Heathrow flights on Saturday.
Authorities have temporarily lifted restrictions on overnight flights to help reduce congestion.
Fire officials described the incident as “believed to be non-suspicious,” while London’s Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command is investigating due to the fire’s significant impact, though there is “currently no indication of foul play.”
