President Donald Trump on Wednesday spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a day after discussing a potential ceasefire with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a social media post, Trump described the call as an effort to align Russia and Ukraine’s requests and needs for peace.
During yesterday’s call, Putin agreed to halt strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure but rejected a full 30-day ceasefire.
Zelenskyy dismissed Putin’s pledge, citing 150 drone strikes overnight, including on energy facilities.
The White House called the talks a step toward peace, but Putin’s conditions for a deal remain opposed by Kyiv.
Analysts suggest Russia is using the ceasefire proposal to extract concessions. Further talks are planned in Riyadh, though Ukraine’s participation is unclear.
