
President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency.
The brief ceremony was attended by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, and Presidential Principal Secretary Hakeem Muri-Okunola.
Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, who served from 2015 to 2021 under President Muhammadu Buhari will oversee the state’s administration until stability is restored
Born in 1960 in Cross River, he served in the Nigerian Navy from 1979 to 2021, rising to the rank of Chief of Naval Staff. A graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy, he trained in military institutions in the U.S. and Pakistan.
Ibas, 64, holds a master’s degree in defence and strategic studies and was honoured with the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
