Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has accused the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Local Government Inspector (LGI) in Eti-Osa, Lagos, of abandoning their office after summoning corps member Ushie Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye.
Sowore, who accompanied Uguamaye with a team of lawyers, alleged that the NYSC official was absent throughout their visit despite the prior summons.
“We arrived at the Eti-Osa NYSC office with Youth Corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye in Lagos. She was scheduled to appear before the LGI today, but the LGI absconded. We will be back!” Sowore wrote on Facebook.
Uguamaye recently went viral after posting a TikTok video criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration, decrying economic hardship and describing Lagos as a “smelling state.”
Following threats from alleged NYSC officials, she shared an official summons to appear before the Eti-Osa LGI. Expressing fears for her safety, she stated, “They have my address. If I disappear, you know who to hold accountable.”
The controversy has attracted national attention, with figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) supporting her right to free speech.
