Former footballer, John Fashanu is seeking £100,000 in compensation from the Nigerian police for arresting him over a land dispute in December 2024.
The 62 year old Fashanu who was detained on allegations including criminal conspiracy, threat to life, and trespassing, which he denies, said he was unduly arrested over a dispute concerning a 22-acre plot of land for which investors had promised to pay him over £500,000.
After discovering workers assigned by the investors building a perimeter fence under police protection, he and his lawyer, Chinyere Chigbu visited the police station where they were arrested.
In his suit, Fashanu said the incident traumatised him and hindered his potential appointment as Nigeria’s national football coach.
His lawyer confirmed the case has been adjourned to April 10, after all parties met their bail conditions.
