Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has described Anthony Joshua as a superior boxer to Daniel Dubois, despite Joshua’s recent fifth-round knockout defeat to the latter.
The undisputed Ukrainian champion, who has beaten both British fighters, shared his views in an interview with TNT Sports. “Anthony Joshua is an Olympic champion, two-time world champion. Daniel is a young boy, yeah? But Anthony is the best boxer,” Usyk said.
He added in a separate interview, “You cannot compare the two guys. These are completely different types of athletes. The only thing they have in common is that they are both boxers.”
Usyk defeated Joshua in back-to-back fights in 2021 and 2022 before stopping Dubois in August 2023 during his first heavyweight title defence. Joshua and Dubois faced off for the IBF title in September, with Dubois securing a surprise knockout win.
Neither fighter has competed since, with a rematch reportedly scrapped due to Joshua’s “niggling injuries.” Dubois, who withdrew from a scheduled bout with Joseph Parker in February due to illness, is now targeting a rematch with Usyk. However, the Ukrainian has been ordered to face WBO mandatory challenger Parker next.
