The Lagos State Government has expressed condolences over the death of two men following a gas tanker explosion that occurred under the Otedola Bridge last night.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the incident reinforces the urgent need for stricter safety protocols for heavy-duty vehicles.
He called on all transport operators to uphold the highest safety standards and cooperate with government efforts to safeguard lives and property.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary,Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA),Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that 12 vehicles, eight tricycles and a building were destroyed by the incident which occured when a truck carrying diesel exploded after it fell on its side while negotiating a bend inward Omole.
He said three of the six injured persons suffered severe burns and were moved to the hospital while the other three received immediate medical attention.
