The husband of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has publicly confirmed that she confided in him about alleged harassment by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Emmanuel Uduaghan, a traditional chief of Warri Kingdom, stated that he initially approached the matter with diplomacy and sought a private resolution out of respect for Akpabio, whom he considered a family friend.
“My wife has confided in me about her interactions with the senate president. I approached the matter with utmost maturity and responsibility, as a traditional leader who upholds core family values,” Uduaghan stated.
He revealed that he personally met with Akpabio, urging him to respect his wife as a sitting senator and honour their long-standing friendship. “We reached an understanding and agreed to resolve the issue amicably,” he said.
However, despite this agreement, his wife continued to report harassment, suggesting the issue remained unresolved.
The controversy escalated after Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged in a televised interview that Akpabio made inappropriate advances towards her in his Uyo residence on December 8, 2023. She further claimed that he hinted at political favoritism in exchange for personal favors.
While Akpabio’s wife, Ekaette, has denied the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit demanding N350 billion in damages, calls for an independent probe have intensified. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki have urged a transparent investigation.
Uduaghan reaffirmed his faith in his wife’s loyalty, urging the Senate to treat her with respect. “She was elected because of the trust her people have in her. She is a devoted wife, and the bond we share is deep and unwavering,” he concluded.
