Tragedy struck in Bauchi as a 50-year-old businessman, Nuru Isah, allegedly beat his 24-year-old second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, to death following a dispute over food items meant for breaking the first fast of Ramadan.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident and has launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Wakili, the incident occurred on March 1, 2025, around 11:30 p.m. in the Fadamam Mada area near Government Girls College, Bauchi.
“This unfortunate event arose from a misunderstanding between Alhaji Nuru Isah, a businessman at Central Market Bauchi, and his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, concerning the handling of food ingredients and fruits designated for breaking the Ramadan fast, which escalated into a violent confrontation,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Isah used a cane to beat his wife during the altercation, causing her to collapse and lose consciousness. She was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.
The police have arrested Isah and recovered the cane allegedly used in the assault as evidence. The deceased has been taken to the mortuary, pending an autopsy.
