The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, UNIFIL has said its outgoing deputy force commander was injured yesterday after a convoy taking peacekeepers to Beirut airport was violently attacked.
UNIFIL, in a statement today, demanded a full and immediate investigation by Lebanese authorities and for all perpetrators to be brought to justice.
While condemning the attack, Lebanon’s President, Joseph Aoun said that security forces will not tolerate anyone who tries to destabilise the country.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar called for an emergency meeting before noon today to discuss the security situation.
